HAN SOLO Prequel Directors Leave the Production During Filming
This is huge news. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, writers/directors of such offbeat classics 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie, have left the untitled Han Solo prequel before filming has wrapped due to creative differences.
Lucasfilm still intends on releasing Han Solo in May 2018, but now they are on the hunt for a new director to shepherd the production. What this means for the existing footage that has been shot is anybody's guess, but this is a huge blow to the film. Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been great at making ludicrous sounding films into essential viewing, and they were the only reason I was interested in the film.
This is the 4th troubled recent Star Wars production when you consider the fact that Gareth Edwards had to do many reshoot with a new writer and different director shooting footage for Rogue One, Justin Trank got fired from another untitled Star Wars film, and Carrie Fisher's death before Episode 9 has begun filming. I hope the Lucasfilm micromanaging does not impact Rian Johnson's Episode 8 because he's one of my favorite directors.
More to come on this developing story.
