Happy Anniversary Predator
I just wanted to take some time and honor 6/12/2017, a date that marks the 30th anniversary of the release date of one of the greatest action movies in history, Predator. This 1987 classic has become entrenched in pop culture. It gave us one of the greatest monsters in cinematic history with a distinctive noise and vision . We got from it lines like, "If it bleeds, we can kill it", "I ain't got time to bleed" and the line I have on a t-shirt, "GET TO DA CHOPPA!". It gave us the most epic handshake in history that had an even more epic remix. My personal favorite scene is their tip on how to clear unwanted brush from your property.
If you had told me back then that this movie would give us two future state governors, I would have looked at you like you lost your damn mind. It was a movie that you at first thought was just a jungle shoot 'em up as Arnold helped Apollo Cre-, I mean Carl Weathers, look for a lost helicopter crew being held hostage in South America that turned into a fight for survival against the deadliest hunter in the galaxy. This movie spawned two sequels, Predator 2 and Predators. A scene in Predator 2 where Danny Glover discovers the trophy case on the ship led to increased hope for an Alien vs. Predator film, of which we got two. Unfortunately both were not that great. They had some cool moments but that was about it.
Apparently there is a new Predator movie in the works for 2018 and this one is helmed and written by Shane Black, who played Hawkins in Predator and also wrote Lethal Weapon. I have high hopes for this one.
So happy anniversary to greatest hunter the galaxy has ever seen. If you've never seen Predator on the big screen and you live in Austin, the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz is having two showings on June 14th & June 25th in 35mm. Do yourself a favor and get your tickets here. I saw it the last time they did this and it was awesome. They even gave out plastic razors like the kind Mac dry-shaved with.
